What's in your fridge?š¢

Did you know some people keep their pet turtles (well, actually tortoises) in the fridge for the winter and then āthawā them out in the spring? 𤯠I went down an IG rabbit hole, and now my timeline is filled with tortoises. You too? No? Just me?
You might be wondering what this has to do with feeling lighter or building habits with self-compassion and grace...
Well, I think we can learn a few lessons from these tortoises and their pet parents:
šøTake a Season for Rest
I know many women who āwinteredā these past few months, leaning into feeling cozy, resting and going inward (kind of like hibernating). Spring is our chance to step out of that season and be intentional about how we want to feel in the months ahead.
š Ease Into It
Tortoises THAW out, they don't spring right back into being their fully alive version - they take a nice bath to warm up (seriously it's the first thing they do after spending the winter in the fridge). How often do we dive headfirst into something with an all-or-nothing attitude vs easing in at a sustainable pace with a goal of progress, not perfection?
š«¶ Practice Self-Compassion
Turtles don't judge themselves or compare how quickly they thaw vs others. They're not worried about what they missed while in the fridge, they simply live in the moment and get ready for a spring saladā¦seriously, they have a bath and then eat a salad! š„ Let's be a little kinder to ourselves in this season.

𤨠Ignore Judgment
Does Franklin's owner face judgment for keeping him in the fridge? Maybe. But do you think that stops them from tucking him into his box in the fridge and checking on him every once and a while? Probably not! As my son says, āJudgment is an issue-you, not an issue-me.ā This little shift in perspective has helped me let go of worrying about what others think. Do what feels right for you and find the people who will cheer you on! Honestly, if you have a tortoise in your fridge, please invite me over! *This applies literally but also metaphorically
š Get Curious
Learning about tortoise hibernation wasn't on my 2025 bingo card and it's probably not info I'll use again, but it was fun to learn just for the sake of learning. I've been trying 30 new things in 56-days, which has reminded me that curiosity is a practice, trying new things gets you out of your comfort zone and sometimes it's less about purpose and more about just being present and finding little joys!
šļø Set Your Own Pace
Yes, many tortoises got popped out of the fridge into their bubble bath on the first day of springā¦but you know Shelly came out a week early and there's got to be a Yertle or two still in the crisper. You get to choose your own timeline and start when it's right for you

š¢ So, what's been āin your fridgeā that's ready to come back to life this spring?
For me, two thingsš¢ came to mind:
In my life: THE STUFF - so much stuff & clutter. I recently read that women are more affected by clutter than men, it can impact hormones and sleep! I've reduced clutter before, but now I'm ready to tackle the hard stuff (aka sentimental items and craft supplies). Stay tuned for my next Light 56 challenge!
In my business: Sending emails (consider this my warm bath). I promise they won't all have weird reptile analogies. I'm excited to get back into a rhythm of sharing updates about Light 56, Light 56 Circle, reminders about the moon and how to practice simple & feminine rituals so you can feel lighter in your life and most importantly I can't wait to HEAR FROM YOU!!!
What are you enjoying, practicing, or dreaming about? Could you use a cheerleader or confidant for your big intentions or tiny wishes?
Let me know, I'd love to hear from you (especially if you have a pet tortoise) š
